Featured in the 2008 premiere edition of the Montecito Journal magazine, The Ride formed in December 2007 when Montecito residents Stacey & Don Fergusson, along with friend Jon Payne, teamed up with Main Stage Dream Tours duo David Hekhouse & Jesse Benenati to create a high-energy classic rock band. Helping to launch Main Stage Dream Tours – a Santa Barbara-based company that provides fantasy tours for amateur musicians – The Ride developed an hour-long set of lesser-known classic rock covers plus one original song written by the Fergussons.
In May 2008, the band opened for Zach Gill, from the Jack Johnson band and ALO, at SOHO, Santa Barbara's premiere music & dinner club. Two weeks later, The Ride launched a mini-tour in the UK, recording their original song "One Ride" at Abbey Road Studio 2, where the Beatles taped nearly a hundred hit songs. The next day found The Ride performing live at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, on the "Beatles stage" where the famous quartet played 300 gigs before launching into mega-stardom. A performance at The Cavern Pub capped the schedule. On their last day in the city, John Lennon's half-sister Julia Baird honored The Ride with a 3-hour luncheon, presenting signed copies of her recent book, 'Imagine This – Growing Up with my Brother John Lennon'. The final night found the band doing an impromptu jam session with touring Brazilian musicians in the basement of another Beatles haunt, The Jacaranda.
The Ride is available for performances at private
